2 tiered waterfall with the upper falls forming a very nice crescent shaped ledge. This falls is quite popular despite the gravel road access. There is a large campground just past but within earshot of the falls for a great night's sleep to the music of water falling.GPS data that was replaced by CGNDB data = 52.388048, -116.355424
Highway Directions
NOTE: Fuel prices vary in this fairly remote area and in particular Saskatchewan Crossing is VERY expensive for any type of fuel. I suggest topping off in Banff, Jasper, Eggmont or Red Deer depending on your starting location. Once in this area the best price for fuel was last seen at the old store at gravel road turn off. Sorry we do not have distances for highway 11 portion at this time. From Banff or Golden begin at Trans-Canada Highway 1 & Highway 93 Icefields Parkway, from the interchange head northwest on HWY-93 for 75.6km (47 mi), turn right (east) at Saskatchewan crossing and drive on David Thompson Highway 11 for ??km (??mi) passing David Thompson Resort, at a small gas station & store on south side of highway turn left (north) onto gravel road marked Crescent Falls, continue on gravel road for about 15 minutes ??km (??mi), follow the signs for plentiful parking or camping. From the Jasper begin at Icefields Parkway Highway 93 & Yellowhead Highway 16, drive south for ??km (??mi) through Jasper National Park and into Banff National Park, turn left (east) at Saskatchewan crossing and drive on David Thompson Highway 11 for ??km (??mi) passing David Thompson Resort, at a small gas station & store on south side of highway turn left (north) onto gravel road marked Crescent Falls, continue on gravel road for about 15 minutes ??km (??mi), follow the signs for plentiful parking or camping. From Red Deer proceed to Eggmont and begin at David Thompson Highway 11 & Range Road 154 Highway 734, drive west on David Thompson Highway 11 for ??km (??mi), , at a small gas station & store on south side of highway turn right (north) onto gravel road marked Crescent Falls, continue on gravel road for about 15 minutes ??km (??mi), follow the signs for plentiful parking or camping.
Local Directions
No hike required to see the Upper Crescent Falls, there are a series of narrow/steep trails to pool below upper falls and to see lower falls better. When raining these trails are very dangerous and should not be attempted.
Photographing Crescent Falls
Once again this falls is quite open and has harsh sunlight most of the time. Look for cloud cover or shoot in the very early morning. The area above the falls has some very nice water motion and I do a lot of motion studies here while visiting with other travellers. Having been there twice I am still not satisfied that we have the images that we chase!
